Actions speak louder than words.

Yankees won, Volpe had a good game at the plate.

Let me put an emphasis on "former":

"I gotta make those plays, obviously," the former Gold Glove winner said. "That's about it."

"I've never really experienced something like this," he continued. "But we've got really good guys around me. I consider myself—I know what I'm capable of, so. It's obviously frustrating but it's not discouraging, and I know the standard that I have for myself. I'm just gonna keep pushing until I just prove it to myself every day. Every day's a new day and that's just what I'm gonna do."

Fans and writers are often appeased by contrition.

Volpe is probably a nice guy from a nice family. Though it comes up so often in his defense, it's quite awkward.

All of this aside, what does it mean to come clean?

Does he take 500 ground balls per day? Can he work on his arm strength? If it's the yips, can he get unrecognizable Chuck Knoblauch as a mentor?

Does he actually take action to get better? Or does he just talk about it?
