"And this blunder occurred in Sanchez’s
first game since he was picked off second base during Thursday’s series
opener at Oriole Park, an 8-4 Yankees win.
How is this happening?
When
Boone was asked if Sanchez’s focus still is an issue, the skipper said 'no' and then did what he always does when his catcher is criticized. He
went on the defense.
'I think they’re
teachable moments is what I think,' Boone said. 'I think he’s been
really hooked up as far as his prep, as far as his game-calling, as far
as his focus offensively. I think it’s a case (on Saturday) of getting
himself in a little bit of an un-athletic position where he got himself
in trouble, and that’s where we’ve got to teach and clean it up. And we
will.' "
An empty non-answer from Boone which requires no scrutiny because it's not intended to provide information.
He tripped over third base like a first-grader playing kickball for the first time. I'll say he got himself in a "little bit of an un-athletic position."
Of course, people can trip on the basepaths on occasion, even the best players.
Clearly, Sanchez's problems are more than an occasional physical slip up.
